Made for a useful moment at the piano

Piano Chord Library is owned by Rob and is part of an independent website portfolio. The aim is practical: original keyboard diagrams, clearly spelled note names, synthesized reference playback and clean printable practice material.

The site covers major and minor triads on all twelve roots, plus major, three minor forms and major/minor pentatonic scales. It is a reference for adult learners, returning musicians and teachers, rather than a full piano course.

How the references are made

Notes are derived from interval patterns and diatonic letter sequences. Written spelling is kept separate from pitch, so enharmonic names do not disappear from the explanation. Original diagrams are generated from those notes. Playback uses equal temperament with A4 at 440 Hz and simple synthesized tones.

The engine is checked against independent expected note lists for the supported roots and types. Tests help catch mistakes; they do not replace thoughtful use or establish a teaching qualification. No staff, testimonials or professional credentials are claimed.

Limits and sources

No song transcriptions or fingering prescriptions are included. References consulted include Open Music Theory and the University of Puget Sound's music theory text. The diagrams, explanations and layouts here are original.

Read the help and known limitations if something looks or sounds unexpected.

I’m Rob. I enjoy creating free, useful resources that make everyday tasks a little easier. I hope you find something here that helps you and that you enjoy using.

I like the idea that a useful resource can make someone’s day a little simpler. Sometimes that means a clear explanation; sometimes it means a practical tool or a page you can print and use straight away.

That is why I created Piano Chord Library: a place for free resources to help with finding your way around piano notes, chords and scales. My aim is to make the information straightforward and the resources easy to use, so you can get on with what you came here to do.

I hope you find these resources helpful and enjoy using them. If something could be clearer, or you spot a problem, please let me know through the contact page. Feedback helps me make the site more useful.
